John Scascighini in full regalia at the 2007 Australia Day Breakfast

Town Crier

Last modified: June 25, 2009 - 10:13 AM

John Scascighini was appointed West Wyalong Town crier in 1993, in anticipation of the town's Centenary Celebrations which took place in March 1994.

After the West Wyalong Centenary Celebrations John continued as West Wyalong’s Town Crier, welcoming bus loads of tourists to the town, giving keynote cries at Australia Day breakfasts, starting car rallies and making appearances at special events such as weddings, anniversaries and birthdays.

John’s 2007 Australia Day breakfast cries can be seen below:

hear ye!   hear ye!   hear ye!

On This Glorious Australia Day 2007

Let Us Concider The Meaning Of  Mateship.

Mateship is:  The strong defending the weak.

Mateship is:  The fortunate providing for the disadvantaged.

Mateship is:  tolerence of another’s culture, respect for another’s beliefs & the sharing of another’s joys & sorrows.

As Australians let us rejoice

In the freedoms we cherish,

The bounty which is ours to share & the unique privelege of being Australian.

Advance Australia Fair!
