West Wyalong Show holiday

West Wyalong Show Day 2018-2019

Show Holiday Proposal

Bland Shire Council is seeking public comment on a request from the West Wyalong Show Society for a part day public holiday (noon-6pm) on Wednesday 5 September 2018 and Wednesday 4 September 2019 in the West Wyalong/Wyalong and Tallimba Town Improvement Districts for the purposes of the West Wyalong Show.

Council is required to consider all community correspondence, including feedback from local businesses, schools and banks, before determining whether to apply to the NSW Department of Industrial Relations for a part day public holiday or any alternative options including a “local event day”.

A local event day does not stop banks or shops within the gazetted area from opening or trading on the day. It also means that staff employed within those organisations do not have the automatic right to be absent from work to attend the show or have entitlement to penalty rates that apply on a public holiday. Local schools would also continue to operate as normal.

Council is required to demonstrate significant community support to back up any application to the NSW Department of Industrial Relations and businesses, community groups and the public are urged to comment on the proposal.

People can contribute to the consultation by filling in the short survey below by 5pm on Friday 3 November 2017.
