Library services FAQs

This section answers all of the most commonly-asked questions about our library services.

Free Internet, Access Friendly, Personalised Service Weekly Storytelling, Housebound Deliveries and Winner of the West Wyalong Works 2002 - Excellence in Service Award

Membership Membership to Bland Shire Library is free to all persons living or working within the Bland Shire, and reciprocal rights are available for those living outside and their member library is part of the Reciprocal Rights Scheme. Borrowers under the age of 16 years require the signature of a parent or guardian. Proof of identity and address must be provided, eg drivers licence. Organisations may also join.
Loans and Renewals The standard loan period is three weeks, except for videos and CD's, which can be borrowed for one week only.
Adults There is no limit to the amount of books, magazines and talking books that can be borrowed. However, only three videos and one CD can be borrowed at any one time.
Children Children are limited to six (6) items at any time. This may incorporate one video and/or one CD. All library items may be renewed in person or by phone (02 6979 0272) provided they have not been reserved by another borrower.
Fines There is an overdue charge of 10c per day per item except video's and CD's which are charged at 50c per day.

Reservations Any item in the collection may be reserved for the small fee of $1.00 Inter Library Loans If the item you require is not held by our library, then we can request it for you from another library if available. A small charge of $2.00 per item is payable for this service, except where the library has charged us. In this case, a fee of $13.20 gst inc may apply.
Photocopying
Black and White - 20c per page for a standard A4 size. 40c for A3 size.
Colour - $1.50 per page for a standard A4 size. $2.00 for A3 size.
Please ask staff for assistance if required.
Printing Both Colour and Black and White printing are available.
Colour printing is 50c for a standard A4 and 80c for A3.
Black and White printing is 30c per A4 page and 60c per A3 page.
Faxing Our fax machine is available for public use at a fee of $5.00.
Scanning Scanning is available in the library. There is a public scanning machine available or staff can provide the service for you. Scanning attracts a small fee of $1.00 per page. Photo paper is available on request, but does incur additional costs.   

Laminating $2.00 per standard A4 page. $3.00 per A3 page.

Personal Computer A PC is available for use FREE or charge. Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Power Point, and Publisher are installed. Printing charges apply.

House Bound Service Volunteers from the library will deliver books to library members unable to access the library. Contact staff for more details if you require this service.

Internet Access The library provides FREE internet access. Email and Chat incur a fee of $2.00 per hour or part thereof. Printing charges apply on all printing. It is desirable that bookings are made, however it is not essential. Please ask staff for assistance when accessing the internet.

CD Roms A variety of CD Rom's are available for use in the library. They range from preschool to adult and include educational, genealogical, Sydney Morning Herald and recreational.
Storytelling and Craft Morning Weekly storytelling is held every Thursday at 10.00am. The session runs for approximately 1 hour and includes a combination of stories, activities, craft, dance and music.
Book Deposit Stations To provide a service to the Villages of the Shire, the Library has Book Deposit Stations in Barmedman (Wells' Newsagency), Ungarie (Hale's General Store) and Weethalle (Whistlestop Cafe). The material at these locations are changed five times each year in January, April, July, September and December.

After Hours Shute If you cannot return items during opening hours, a book return is available adjacent to the front doors for your convenience.

Other Services In addition to the above, the library holds a wide selection of Newspapers and Magazines, Reference Materials, Yearly Author Visit incorporating all the schools within the Shire, a Books Sales Agency and personalised service.
