Bland Shire to celebrate Harmony Day

A day of celebration, colour and culture will showcase Bland Temora Family Day Care’s passion for multicultural activities on Harmony Day next week.

The children and families are hosting a Playgroup in the Park on Tuesday 19th March to celebrate Harmony Day and the diverse cultures, backgrounds and nationalities that make our nation great.

With the theme for Harmony Day 2013 “Many Stories – One Australia”, the family day care children are encouraged to learn about and celebrate the diverse stories which make up the bigger Australian story we share today.

Bland Temora Family Day Care Coordinator, Julia Moore says Harmony Day is an exciting time for all children no matter what their cultural background.

“The celebrations are a great way for the children and their families to celebrate what their country means to them. Children love learning about the different cultures and nationalities that make up our great nation,” Mrs Moore said.

“One of the important lessons children learn is the diversity of cultures within Australia that makes our country so unique.”

Celebrations – be they national holidays, birthdays or religious events are a time of wonder and amazement for children. Recognising and celebrating special events is an important part of a child’s life and contributes to their sense of belonging.

Harmony Day is an important date on the events calendar at Bland Temora Family Day Care.

“It’s a time to learn about the stories behind Australia’s culturally diverse society. It’s a celebration and recognition of all the different cultures that make up our nation.”

To celebrate, Bland Temora Family Day Care is hosting a Playgroup in the Park for educators, children and their families, on Tuesday 19th March between 10am and 12.30pm

The fun-filled playgroup is just one of the community events celebrated by Family Day Care services around the country that recognise and are in line with the Government’s Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).

Family Day Care services around the country are celebrating community based events and linking them to the fundamentals of the Early Years Learning Framework.

The calendar of community events, including Harmony Day, celebrates safety, childhood development, cultural diversity, and play-based learning.
