Celebrating Childrens Book Week

The Bland Shire Library will celebrate Children’s Book Week later this month.

To be held from 22-28 August, Children’s Book Week is a seven day celebration of books and Australian authors and illustrators.

This year's Book Week theme is “Books Light Up Our World” and the Bland Shire library will lead the local celebrations by holding themed competitions for local school students as well as a special “Book at Bedtime” Storytime night session at 6pm on Thursday 27 August.

Children between 18 months and seven years of age are invited to come in their pyjamas and bring along their favourite cuddly toy. As well as celebrating Book Week, Book at Bedtime is also a great opportunity for working parents to bond with their child. The regular morning Storytime session will not be held on 27 August.

Meanwhile, the library has launched some exciting new youth focused competitions to celebrate Book Week aimed at students from kindergarten to secondary.

Students in kindergarten to year two are asked to draw, paint or collage a picture of themselves reading in a fun place, students in years three and four are challenged to create a “Books Light Up Our World” poster, students in years five and six are asked to design their own book cover and write a mini review while students attending high school are invited to write an essay (no more than 400 words) about why or how books light up our world.

All entries received will be displayed at the library and prizes will be awarded to students in each category.
