Mobility Scooter Information Session

Bland Shire Council will be conducting a free information session on the safe operation of mobility scooters for people with scooters or considering buying a scooter.

The session will be held at the West Wyalong Services & Citizens Club on Thursday 6th April 2017 at 10.30am and will provide advice on the use of mobility scooters, purchase and safe operation.

Council’s Road Safety Officer said, “Senior members of our community are choosing to use mobility scooters to maintain their independence and stay connected. They give the operator freedom and independence they would not normally have.”

With an increasing number of residents using this mode of transport, the information provided will be designed to assist operators to cross the road and use the footpaths safely.

By attending the information session, participants can learn about introducing small changes that will make them safer – including planning safe routes, understanding how to use footpaths, and safety around driveways.

“A motorised scooter user is considered to be a pedestrian, and must comply with the NSW Road Rules that apply to pedestrians. To ensure motorised scooters can mix safely with other pedestrians, they must meet the requirements of NSW Road Rules 2014.”

“It is also important mobility scooter users have been checked by a health professional and receive advice on how to stay safe.  The information session will provide an opportunity for operators to access advice from experts”, she said.

In addition, Riverina Scooters will also have an extensive range of motorised mobility scooters on display and will be happy to talk to you about your needs.
