New Councillor elected

Doctor Lincoln Pike has been declared the newest Bland Shire Councillor.

Dr Pike is scheduled to attend his first Bland Shire Council meeting next Tuesday night, May 21, after winning last Saturday’s Bland Shire by-election with 54.96 per cent of the public first preference vote.

The by-election poll was officially declared at 10am yesterday morning by Returning Officer Mary Moffitt from the New South Wales Electoral Commission.

Bland Shire Mayor Neil Pokoney congratulated Dr Pike on his election.

“Congratulation to Dr Pike on his election … it is pleasing to see Council return to a full complement of nine Councillors,” Mayor Pokoney said.

“We welcome the skills Dr Pike brings to the Council and look forward to working with him for the betterment of the Bland Shire.”

The by-election was called following the death of Councillor Robert Bland earlier this year.

Dr Pike was one of three candidates who contested the by-election alongside Bruce Baker (23.6 per cent of first preference votes) and Barry Cooper (21.43%).
