The Bland Shire community will get the chance to formally celebrate the refurbishment of the West Wyalong Sports Stadium when an official grand opening is held on Saturday morning.
Celebrations will run from 10am until noon and one lucky reveler will walk away with the latest gaming console on the market – the Nintendo Switch.
Construction on the $2.2 million refurbishment commenced in May of last year and local user groups are excited to be able to resume and grow their competitions in a state of the art indoor facility.
“The new Stadium has been put to immediate and effective use by hosting the opening round of the Western Junior League basketball competition last week, as well as a High School round robin tournament and representative trials,” Bland Shire Council Acting General Manager, Adele Casey said.
“After the refurbishment, the Stadium stands as a modern indoor arena with the facilities to hold not only a host of sporting competitions but also community events and functions.
“Council is pleased to be able showcase this facility to the wider community for the first time on Saturday”.
Opening celebrations commence at 10am with a free sausage sizzle.
Patrons will also have the chance to inspect the facilities, try a variety of indoor sports and activities and more prior to the official opening by Bland Shire Mayor Tony Lord at approximately 11am.
The official opening will be followed by a unique lucky door prize draw where at least one lucky patron will get the chance to land a shot to win the new Nintendo Switch gaming console which is being released in Australia the day before (3 March).
Celebrations will conclude with a three point shooting competition with more great prizes up for grabs.
“The opening is a great opportunity for the community to come together and it would be great to see as many people attend as possible,” Mrs Casey said.
