Mirrool newsletter and upcoming events Only Two Months to Mirrool Centenary Weekend With less than two months to the Mirrool Centenary to be held over the Anzac Weekend, April 24-26, 2009 , the Mirrool Centenary Committee is now in full swing with preparations for the big occasion. Working bees have already started in fixing up the Mirrool Hall Toilets and next week will start on replacing the timberwork around the stage. Plans are being made to fix the floor of the Tennis Club, and fix a hole in the roof of the Mirrool Church. A new Border Fence and white pebbles will be put around the War Memorial in time for Anzac Day. The Bland Shire Council has been very helpful, with Cr. Liz McGlynn attending Committee Meetings and organising what is needed. Centenary Programme The weekend will start on Friday night, April 24 with the launch of the Mirrool History Book at the Royal Hotel. Book Editor, Nigel Judd, said the book is in the proof reading stage and will be going to the printers next week. For any urgent late items, contact Nigel now. A Camp Oven style Tea will be cooked and served after the Book Launch, and a historical slide show will be running. On Saturday, April 25, the day will start with the Anzac Service at 9.00a.m. at the Mirrool cenotaph. Guest Speaker will be Bgdr. Roger Powell. Children and relatives of ExServicemen and women are invited to march and wear their parents or grandparents medals. Several planes from the Temora Aviation Museum will be doing a Fly Past at 8.56a.m. on their way to Sale, Victoria. Morning Tea will be served after the Anzac Service. Several buses will be running to allow Ex- Service Men and Women to travel back to Ariah Park for their 11.00a.m. Service. It will be back to Mirrool for the 1.00p.m. Street Parade, and letters have gone out to all community organisations to put a float in the parade. Eric Robinson and Bill Dunn are the organisers of the parade, so contact them for more details. Helpers as tractor drivers and marshals will be appreciated. After the Parade, the Centenary will be officially opened by the "3 B's" - Bob, Bill and "Bucket", who will be introduced by the Member for Riverina, Kay Hull. A Mirrool Memorabilia Display will be set up in the security of the Rural Fire Service Shed, and Renae Noack and Joe and Carol Reilly are in charge of that display. It will be set up by Friday afternoon, and will be open all weekend. On Saturday evening, there will be the Mirrool Centenary Ball to be held in the Mirrool Hall.
