A brief overview of what is happening in the Bland Shire this week

Road Train Access

A number of Roads in the Bland Shire have been gazetted and opened for road train usage on a trial period of 3 months. The roads opened yesterday and will be reassessd for safety at the end of January, 2010, before it becomes a permanent fixture. Bland Shire Council has assessed the roads for safety following strict RTA guidelines. All roads that will be used by Road Trains will also be safe to use by other traffic but Council urges all traffic to ‘proceed with caution' during the harvest period. Please contact Council or the RTA for further information.

Recycling Week

Planet Ark's National Recycling Week from 9-15 November, is a great opportunity to begin recycling in your own home. The West Wyalong landfill now provides facilities to recycle glass, plastic and aluminium, free of charge.

Access Awards

Nominations are now open for the 2009 Access Awards. Bland Shire Access Awards recognise and acknowledge organisations or businesses that have successfully improved access for residents of and visitors to the Shire. Nomination forms are available from Council's website, http://www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au/, or from Council's Customer Service Desk. Nominations close Friday 13 November.

Australia Day

Nominations for Australia Day Awards are now open. Please collect nomination forms from Council's Customer Service Desk or the Council Website, http://www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au/. Nominations close Friday 11 Decmber 2009. Please phone 02 6972 2266 for further information.

Christmas & New Year Celebrations

Events West Wyalong and Business West Wyalong, with the support of Council, will be holding activities throughout the Christmas and New Year period. Christmas activities will be held from the 11-13 December and the New Years Eve fireworks will be held at Ron Crowe Oval. Further information from these two events will be available soon.
