Strategic Planning Workshops

Residents of the Bland Shire will have an opportunity to voice their opinions and provide information on their thoughts and visions for the future direction of the Bland Shire at a series of community strategic planning workshops to take place in the week commencing 7 April.

Strategic plans are a vital tool for planning the future of our Shire and are also to become mandatory documents for all local government areas in the near future. Council has employed consultants from blackadder gibbs pty ltd to develop a strategic plan for the Bland Shire and it is essential that the community have a major input.

"I urge all community members to attend the workshops that will be run by the external consultants in West Wyalong, Ungarie, Barmedman, Mirrool, Barmedman, Tallimba, Weethalle and Kikoira following the biannual community forums. This is your opportunity to work with your neighbours to develop priorities for your town, "said Bland Shire Mayor David Bolte.

According to the Department of Local Government, the key elements involved in community strategic planning include issues relating to social cohesion; functional economy; a robust environment and sound infrastructure. The strategic plan will therefore become the major foundation for shaping the Bland Shire Council budget in future years.

"We are heading into some exciting times for the Bland Shire Community, and the strategic plan is the opportunity for you to have input into what happens in the long term future. Please come forward with your thoughts," concluded Mayor Bolte.

Once consultation with the community is complete, a draft plan will be prepared and presented to the community for comment. It is hoped that the final plan will be adopted well before the end of this financial year.

Residents who cannot attend the community meetings, but wish to have input into the strategic planning process may do so in writing addressed to The General Manager, PO Box 21 West Wyalong NSW 2671. Meeting times are as follows;

• Mirrool -Monday 7^th April, 10am to 12pm at the Mirrool Hall
• Tallimba - Monday 7^th April, 2pm to 4pm at the Tallimba Hall
• Wyalong - Monday 7^th April, 6pm to 8pm at the Wyalong Hall
• Ungarie - Tuesday 8^th April, 10am to 12pm at the Ungarie Hall
• Weethalle - Tuesday 8^th April, 2am to 4pm at the Weethalle CWA Rooms
• West Wyalong - Tuesday 8^th April, 6pm to 8pm at the Council Chambers
• Barmedman - Wednesday 9^th April, 10am to 12pm at the old Barmedman Court House
• Kikoira/Naradhan - Wednesday 9^th April, 2pm to 4pm at the Kikoira Hall
