Council Elections – Nomination InformationMedia Release 15 May 2008 With the local government elections for 2008 set for 13 September, it is time to begin preparations for the nomination process. There are several ways to obtain information on becoming a councillor in the Bland Shire; If you are interested or intend to run as a candidate at the 2008 Local Council elections then you should attend a free Candidate Information Seminar organised and conducted by the NSW Electoral Commission. As a candidate you will have obligations and responsibilities under law that you should be aware of, even if you have been a candidate in the past or are a councillor seeking re-election, you should attend. The seminars will cover a range of topics including the election timetable, nominations and groups, mayoral elections, election advertising and how-to-vote material, public scrutiny of candidates, voting and formality, scrutineering, vote counting and Election Funding obligations. There are other seminars across NSW on alternative dates. The full list can be obtained on Council's website or by contacting the Council Administration Centre. The ‘Becoming a Councillor' publication is now available on the Department of Local Government's at website http://www.lgsa.gov.au/ or by following the links on the Bland Shire Council website. Hard copies are also available from Council's administration building in Shire Street.
