Bland Shire Council – Winner at Local Government Cultural Awards

Bland Shire Council was the recipient of the Integrated Cultural Policy Implementation Award at the 2008 Local Government Cultural Awards. The award was for the Bland Shire Cultural Plan.
This prestigious award aims to highlight important issues such as mental health, reconciliation, the environment, and education with Bland being singled out for the local opportunities that have been capitalised upon since the implementation of the cultural plan in 2003.
Bland Shire Councils Director of Community Services, Peta Robertson and Councillor Carolyn Stephenson collected the award at the ceremony held at NSW Parliament House in Sydney. "The award is recognition for the important role that the Bland Shire Council plays in encouraging and facilitating culture in our community," said Peta Robertson.
"Bland Shire Council understands the distinct role we need to play in promoting culture to our community, for example, over the past 12 months we have facilitated or assisted in the facilitation of the West Wyalong Christmas Carnival, Australia Day Celebrations, Proms on Tour, Cinema Screenings in the Shire Chambers, compilation of an artists register, International Day of People with a Disability, a Cultural Grants Program and the Winter School of Strings," added Ms Robertson.
The award program had a record number of entries in 2008 which clearly indicates the strength of the cultural programs in the Bland Shire.
"Bland Shire Council is pivotal in ensuring that culture is expressed within the community and this award is wonderful recognition for all our staff, committees, volunteers and public attendees that support cultural activities within the Bland Shire," concluded Ms Robertson.
