Bland Shire Library’s Simultaneous Storytime a SuccessMedia Release 27 May 2008 Bland Shire Council joined with thousands or organisations Australia wide in the 7th National Simultaneous Storytime event on Wednesday May 21st at 11.00am. Librarians, teachers, parents, carers and many others across the nation read the story ‘Arthur' written by Amanda Graham and illustrated by Donna Gynell to more than a quarter of a million children nation wide. "The Australian Library and Information Association organises National Simultaneous Storytime in May every year. The aim of the event is to promote the value of reading, literacy and books, to give prominence to an Australian writer and publisher, and to highlight the importance of story time activities in public libraries and communities around the country," said Adele Casey, Bland Shire Council's Manager of Library and Community Services. "National Simultaneous Storytime provides a great opportunity to involve parents, grandparents, children and others to participate in and enjoy the occasion. At the same time, it highlights the importance of reading and literacy for children, and demonstrates how this can be a fun experience," added senior librarian, and storyteller Cathy Lange. Bland Shire Council extended their story time event to include some ‘paw' related craft and games, as well as a morning tea. Bland Shire Council hosts story time events every Thursday morning from 10.00am at the Bland Shire Library in Shire Street. Contact details |
