Stage One Works Begin in McCann ParkMedia Release 27 May 2008 Expansion of the existing dam, beautification and planting of the dam surrounds and a new pumping system to allow irrigation from the dam began in McCann Park this week. The work is stage 1 of the McCann Park upgrade and is expected to be completed by the end of July. Bland Shire Council's, General Manager, Phil Marshall said the McCann Park upgrade will be a great asset for the park and for the community. "Local residents and visitors will benefits from the new features of the park including a new bird feeding pontoon which will be positioned over the newly expanded dam. McCann Park is the major stopover point for tourists to the Bland Shire so by ensuring that McCann Park looks pristine and provides all the appropriate amenities we will ensure that visitors continue to stop in our town and contribute to local businesses," added Mr Marshall. The upgrade to McCann Park will continue with stage 2 which will comprise of new picnic areas including BBQs, shelters and park furniture that will be built near to the children's playground and overlooking the dam to provide spectacular 360 degree views. To improve access for all, there will be new sealed trails connecting all of the new features of the park, and linking in with the existing green corridor walking track, and the walking track to the hospital. The trails will be coloured to reduce visual impact. Signage, the existing playground, public toilets and tree planting will all be considered in the future as part of the renovations. The final outcome will be a beautiful park for walking, relaxing and socialising, that also has high ecological values. Contact details |
