“Gone Fishing”

Media Release 3 June 2008

As part of the Bland Shire Council Holiday Activity program, 26 enthusiastic young fishermen and women were treated to a day of fishing and koala spotting at Narrandera.

Participants received instruction on casting technique, catch and release in a pond specifically stocked for the day, expert tuition was provided by the staff at the John Lake Centre, Narrandera.

A rod and reel was won by a very proud Ashley Bell, who caught a 65cm Murray Cod - the biggest catch of the day!

To add to a rewarding experience, local business, Nicho's Toy and Sport and the Department of Fisheries donated lures, fishing DVD's, stickers and sinkers for participants to enjoy on their next fishing adventure.

Other fun activities included a visit to the Aquaria to meet the enormous Murray Cod and a fully escorted Koala spotting tour of the Narrandera Common.
