Australia’s Largest Touring Short Film Festival & Workshop Hits Ungarie!Media Release 4 June 2008 Australia's largest touring short film festival and workshop, In the Bin, is coming to Ungarie from the 16th to the 20th of June 2008. The five day short film workshop will be held in the township of Ungarie and has been made possible by the support of Bland Shire Council. In the Bin is currently Australia's largest touring short film and education program visiting regional and rural communities around Australia. The regional workshop showcases 16 award winning short films and provides a five day education workshop to students interested in the film industry who wouldn't normally be given the chance to work with film. "I want to be able to showcase our films to regional Australia and also provide people with an insight into making films, in an environment where there location doesn't inhibit them," said Jed Cahill, Festival Director. Ungarie will be one of the 65 regional and remote communities across Australia and New Zealand who will be participating in this year's festival with thanks to the Bland Shire Council. Veteran Australian Actor, Jack Thompson has thrown his support behind the festival announcing his role as the Festival's Founding Patron. "I think what these guys are doing is just terrific," said Thompson. "I'm showing my support by advocating to the Australia public that this is a good thing, it's getting film out to everyone in Australia and I'm really behind that, "he added. Festival organisers are overwhelmed with Jack's involvement in the festival hoping that his name will help draw in some much needed sponsorship from corporate Australia and the Australian government. Now in its eighth year, In the Bin showcases 16 entertaining, dramatic, and wonderful short films. These sixteen shorts then make their way across the country to audiences in regional and rural Australia for a one year tour. The 16 shorts have been chosen from a record 285 entries from across the globe. A panel of industry specialists and Australian film buffs were chosen to review the films and select the 16 exemplary shorts to be shown to over 30,000 people around Australia and New Zealand in the 2008 national tour. In the Bin Short Film Festival commences on Thursday 19th of June at the Ungarie Memorial Hall. Film screening will begin at 6.30pm.
