Private Swimming Pool Safety a Priority for Bland ResidentsMedia Release 16 June 2008 Bland Shire Council staff have been encouraged by the recent round of private swimming pool inspections which have resulted in almost 100 per cent of private pools within the Shire meeting the required safety standards. "It is promising to see how seriously Bland Shire pool owners consider pool safety," said Anthony Daintith, Bland Shire Council's Manager of Development Services. "Whilst I know that the public realise there is no alternative to ensuring that children are constantly supervised when they are near or in the water, making sure that appropriate barriers are securely in place is a necessary measure to restrict movement into the pool or spa area," added Mr Daintith. The Council wishes to remind pool owners that just because their pools are compliant now, it is essential that all private pools continue to be maintained to the required safety standards. "Inspections will continue to be undertaken in the future and council urges all pool owners to carry out necessary and regular maintenance checks of pool gates and fences and ensure that resuscitation charts are current and clearly displayed. It is also a good time to remind all residents that private swimming pools must be registered and approved by the council," concluded Mr Daintith.
