Second Course of Sri Lankan cooking

The inaugural Spices of Sri Lanka six week cooking course proved such a smashing success that instructor Paul Martensz is coming back for a second course.

A second season of Sri Lankan cooking classes under Mr Martensz’s tutelage will commence on July 24 and just like the first time around, the course was booked out within days.

The Spices of Sri Lanka courses are a new local initiative in partnership between Bland Shire Council and West Wyalong High School, which is made possible by the enthusiasm, expertise and support of Mr Martensz.

The first six week season recently concluded with a spectacular banquet meal.

After honing their skills and preparing a tasty variety of Sri Lankan inspired meals over the first five weeks, each pair of participants were allocated a specific meal or meals to prepare for the banquet.

At the end of the evening, participants gathered in the adjoining room for banquet fit for a Sri Lankan King.

It was a joyous evening which put the icing on a memorable six weeks which taught each of the participants a series of new culinary skills and an infinite number of bold and exciting potential curry combinations.

A new group of 16 amateur Bland Shire cooks are now eagerly awaiting their chance to embark on a similar journey.
