Sustainable Lifestyle Expo

The rising cost of living continues to impact heavily on members of the Bland Shire community.

The Bland Creek Sustainable Lifestyle Expo, being held in McCann Park on Saturday, October 19 as part of the Sweden in the West celebrations, will demonstrate ways to conserve energy and water, save money and lead a more sustainable life.

A number of local and visiting services and businesses will be in attendance with stalls and demonstrations offering ideas, programs and savings for the community to help address the dramatic recent increases in the cost of living.

The Bland Creek Sustainable Lifestyle expo is held each year at a different location in the catchment area with West Wyalong chosen to host this year’s event following a successful expo in 2010.

“The Bland Creek Catchment Committee (BCCC) is always looking to ensure the health of our catchment is maintained and protected for future generations and landholders,” BCCC spokesperson Tracey Robinson said.

“Our expo aims to showcase local business, products and services to encourage locals to adopt alternative, more sustainable lifestyle practices.”

Following discussions with Events West Wyalong, the BCCC was delighted to conduct the expo as part of the community wide Sweden in the West celebrations.

Entry into the park is free and the expo will be open between 10am and 4pm. Everyone in attendance will be eligible for the lucky gate prize of two nights accommodation at ecologically responsible bed and breakfast “Heron’s Rest:, situated near Grenfell beside Emu Creek.

There will be displays and interactive activities to suit the entire family, including the Scienza Viva Show.

Scienza Viva will conduct an interactive “Let’s Find Out” Science Show with exciting demonstrations in physics, chemistry and biology.

The team will show how we can use what we learn in the world in which we live and how we can live sustainably in that world. Entry is by gold coin donation.

Some of the services and technology which will be on display, include –
