Tiarna Robertson named Trainee of the Year

Tiarna Robertson is the toast of Bland Shire Council after being crowned TAFE New South Wales Western Region Trainee of the Year.

Miss Robertson, 19, was presented with her award at a gala dinner in Orange accompanied by her proud father Matthew Robertson, Council’s General Manager Ray Smith and his wife, Donna Smith who all made the trip from West Wyalong to lend their support.

After winning the West Wyalong Campus Student of the Year and Trainee of the Year awards, she was shortlisted as one of four Western Region finalists from a pool of 4500 potential nominees. Each of the candidates was put through a thorough interview process from which Miss Robertson was selected as the winner despite battling a bout of the flu at the time.

An Administration Trainee at Bland Shire Council, Ms Robertson will now go on to vie for the coveted TAFE New South Wales Trainee of the Year state award.

The state finalists will be interviewed by a panel of professionals in Sydney on July 16-17 before the announcement of the overall winner at a special presentation dinner in the state capital on September 5.

Mr Smith said the entire Bland Shire Council organisation is extremely proud of Miss Robertson’s achievements.

“Tiarna is a high achiever and this recognition is well deserved,” Mr Smith said.

“Bland Shire Council is proud to be Tiarna’s employer and we wish her every success in state judging.”

Miss Robertson commenced her employment with Council on a one year administration traineeship on January 10, 2012. She studied and graduated from Business Administration Certificate III at TAFE during the same year and was also awarded the West Wyalong TAFE Campus Trainee of the Year and Student of the Year awards.

Towards the end of her first 12 months at Council, Miss Robertson was offered an 18 month extension on her traineeship, which enabled her to continue her studies through TAFE. She is now studying Certificate IV Business Administration which she hopes to complete at the end of this year or early next year.
