Tips to open for free on Clean Up Australia Day

Bland Shire Council is opening up every tip in the Shire for free to celebrate Clean Up Australia Day.

Residents across the Shire can clear out their cupboards, clean out the gutters, tidy up the yard or clean up around their neighbourhood on Sunday, March 3 and dump their rubbish at their local landfill for free courtesy of the new Council initiative.

“It is a fresh approach to Clean Up Australia Day,” Bland Shire Council’s Director of Community and Development Services, Adele Casey said.

“Council has reallocated the resources which would have previously gone into co-ordinating a small group of people tidying up a small area in West Wyalong into opening its landfills for free across the Shire so that every resident of the Bland Shire community can benefit.

“The best place to start the big Bland Shire clean-up is at home and Council encourages everyone to get into the spirit of Clean Up Australia Day and take advantage of this opportunity.”

Bland Shire residents can dump up to one cubic metre of sorted waste per load for free at their local landfill on Sunday, March 3.

The West Wyalong Waste Depot will be open between 10am and 3pm for Clean Up Australia Day, Ungarie will open between 8.30am and 11.30am and Barmedman from 12.30pm until 3.30pm while Tallimba, Weethalle, Naradhan and Kikoira will be open throughout the day. Mirrool will not be open on Sunday, March 3 with the free Council offer brought forward a day to Saturday, March 2 where the landfill will open as normal between 10am and 4pm.

Any residents wishing to co-ordinate larger clean-ups in their community are strongly encouraged to register their site and volunteers through the Clean Up Australia Day website at for insurances purposes.

Bland Shire Council also has a limited supply of Clean Up Australia Day bags available for distribution across the Shire to those planning to clean up around their community.
