Visitor Information and Cultural consultation announced

Bland Shire Council will undertake an extensive consultation process to gauge community opinion regarding local visitor information and cultural facilities and services.

Council today launched a visitor information and cultural community engagement strategy - including a community survey and separate visitor survey – outlining its commitment to fully consulting local residents and visitors before making any major decisions on either issue.

A copy of the community survey will be sent to every residence in the Bland Shire by direct mail out through Australia Post. Following its release, the survey will also be available online at www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au from this Friday, October  3 with a limit of two submissions per IP address.

The survey will seek community opinion on a range of issues relating to visitor information and cultural services, including the level of support for a new visitor information centre and a preferred possible location.

Council has also developed a specific survey for visitors to the Bland Shire seeking their opinion about the demand for visitor information and cultural facilities and what services they would likely use.

While Council has already received initial feedback from specific interest groups and individuals regarding visitor information and cultural services, Bland Shire Council General Manager, Ray Smith, said it was important to gauge the opinion and level of support from the wider community as well as the potential users of any proposed new facilities.

“The community engagement strategy clearly demonstrates Council’s commitment to genuine community engagement,” Mr Smith said.

“It will serve as a blueprint for all future major community consultations conducted by Council.”

The community survey will close on December 19 while the visitor survey will close at the end of the summer holidays on Friday, January 30. More details are available by phoning Council’s Community Relations Officer, Craig Sutton, on 6972 2266.
