Our Industries

The Bland Shire has a low unemployment rate with a constant demand for skilled labour.

Barrick Cowal is the Bland Shire’s major employer with a workforce of about 320 staff at the Cowal gold mine, located 32 kilometres north of West Wyalong.

The mine generates an estimated $54 million in annual household income with new employment opportunities regularly advertised.

In 2011, Cowal produced 269,000 ounces of gold at total cash costs of $535 per ounce. Proven and probable mineral reserves as of December 31, 2011 was 2.2 million ounces of gold.

Pace Farm, AWB and Bland Shire Council are the Shire’s other major employers.

Pace Farm operate the largest egg producing facility in the southern hemisphere in West Wyalong while AWB have invested heavily in the region through its modern grain handling facility in West Wyalong.
