Australia Day nominations open

Bland Shire Council is hoping for a record number of nominations for the 2015 Bland Shire Australia Day awards.

Nominations for the prestigious awards are now open and Bland Shire Council Director of Corporate, Community and Development Services, Adele Casey is encouraging people to take the time to recognise the many hard working groups and individuals in the community by submitting a nomination.

“Council has worked hard to streamline and simplify the nomination process to make it easy for people to nominate,” Mrs Casey said.

“The new look nomination forms are on a single sheet of paper while people can also nominate online by visiting Council’s website and following the prompts. All nominations will be considered and assessed according to the criteria and judged on the information provided. Letters of support or other supporting information are always welcome and encouraged.”

Based on the Bland Shire’s terrific community spirit, Mrs Casey said Council is expecting a large number of nominations in all six categories.

“We have a number of incredible individuals and organisations in the Bland Shire and this is a great opportunity to recognise them,” she said.

Awards will be presented in six categories – Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Achievement in Sport and Contribution to Sport.

Previous winners of Bland Shire Australia Day awards are not eligible for an award in the same category.

“While there can only be one winner in each category, all of the eligible nominees will be recognised and honoured at the Australia Day awards ceremony in McCann Park on Australia Day,” Mrs Casey said.

Nominations for the Australia Day awards close on Friday, November 28 and nomination forms are available now from Council’s offices or ONLINE HERE. Further information is available by phoning Council on 6972 2266 or email
