Economic Development initiatives

Listed below are the outcomes and strategies of the Management Plan directly relevant to economic development.  It is these strategies which provide the basis for Council's approach to economic and community development initiatives in our Shire.

Economic and Community Development Outcome

We are committed to maintaining a prosperous and vibrant economy that is consistent with our social and cultural values, provides opportunities for our youth and future generations and retains and attracts residents, businesses and visitors to the region.

To provide leadership and direction in economic and community development

• Identify and facilitate the establishment of partnerships that will further economic and community development

• Establish, maintain and participate in networks that further economic and community development

• Council to take a pro-active role and where necessary an entrepreneurial role, in the creation of economic partnerships and opportunities

To facilitate, encourage and maximise sustainable development opportunities within Bland Shire

• Undertake annual research to identify gaps in business, skills and economic development

• Identify and encourage diverse and innovative business initiatives within the Shire

To foster and create employment opportunities, particularly for youth, in the Shire

• Facilitate the employment of trainees and apprentices within Council

• Encourage business and government enterprises located in the Shire to employ trainees and apprentices

To facilitate the further development of education opportunities in the Shire

• Develop partnerships with education providers and industry to increase the availability of education opportunities in the Shire
