125th Anniversary Celebrations

Main Street then and now

Wyalong and West Wyalong are celebrating their 125th anniversary in 2019 and a huge weekend of celebrations are planned on 22-24 March.

Business West Wyalong is also holding a History Poster Trivia Hunt for the anniversary weekend. People can learn about the history of local business and buildings and win at the same time by visiting participating stores.

Entry forms are available HERE.

Entry is free and completed forms are to be returned to the VIC by Sunday (24 March). The winner will be drawn on Monday 25 March and received a $50 voucher from one of the participating stores. For further information please contact Business West Wyalong chairperson Jill Funnell on 0409 660662.

Friday 22 March 2019

9am-1pm: Men's Shed Open Day at 123 Raiilway Road, West Wyalong. Lunch available from 12 noon.

1pm-4pm: West Wyalong Local Aboriginal Land Council tours (including spectacular internal murals). For more information phone the Land Council on 6972 3493.

3.30pm: Official opening of the 125 Canvases painted in 125 days for 125 years art exhibition at Splatter Gallery and Art Studio at 192 Main Street. For further information phone 0458 424225 or search for "Splatter Gallery and Art Studio" on Facebook. Exhibition will remain open throughout the weekend.

6pm-11pm: West Wyalong RDA Bush Dance and Dinner at the Historic Ram Shed at the West Wyalong Showground featuring the Tin Shed Rattlers

Tickets are available by direct messaging "RDA-NSW-West-Wyalong-Centre" on Facebook, phoning Amanda on 0439 943985 or Sarah on 0437 811 636. Tickets will also be available on the night but people are asked to book if possible to assist with catering.

Tickets (including a two course meal) are: 0-4 years = free, 5-15 years = $15, 16 plus years = $30. This is the major annual fundraiser for West Wyalong Riding for Disabled.

Saturday 23 March

8am-1pm: West Wyalong markets at McCann Park. For more information or to book a stall visit "West Wyalong Markets" on Facebook or phone 0448 544 274.

10am: 125 years of Local Fashion Parade at Historic Thom's Corner, Main Street, West Wyalong featuring local residents and outfits from throughout our history.

10am-2pm: Wyalong Public School Reunion and Time Capsule Unveiling at Wyalong Public School, George Bland Avenue, Wyalong. Classroom displays through the decades and lots to see and do. Clydesdales and Light Horsemen will visit the school at 11am. For more information phone the school on 6972 2140.

12 noon: Dymphna Cusack tribute at Bland Shire Library, Shire Street, West Wyalong. High tea will be served.

12.30pm:5pm: Wyalong Museum and Police Holding Cells, Slee Street, Wyalong: Follow the Light Horsemen and Clydesdales from Cooinda Park to the Museum for the re-enactment of the Reading of the Riot Act by Bland Shire Town Crier, Kyle Sturgess. Visit the Museum and the old police holding cells at the police house in Slee Street.

1pm-5pm: Golden Days Fair, Cooinda Park, Wyalong. The Golden Days Fair is set to be one of the marquee events of the 125th Anniversary of Wyalong and West Wyalong weekend long festivities. This FREE event will showcase a number of old time trade demonstrations including -


Rope Making

Whip Making

Old Fashioned Sheep Sheering


Spinners and Weavers

Rabbit Trap Display

Damper Making

Goat Milking

Clydesdales and the Riverina Light Horsemen will further be a major feature at the event.

Entertainment will be provided by the West Wyalong Town Band, with West Wyalong Movies hosting a number of screenings throughout the afternoon for the enjoyment of attendees.

This is a fully accessible event with accessible amenities including adult change facilities available for use at the fair. A chill out/sensory friendly zone has also kindly been made available for the event thanks to the support of Eastern Riverina Arts.

1.30pm-4.30pm: Cultural and Canoe Tours. The West Wyalong Local Aboriginal Land Council will run cultural and canoe tours around The Wetlands. Tours will run at 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm with numbers strictly limited. Bookings to Council on 6972 2266.

2pm: Mallee Root Throwing championship at Rotary Park. See the champion rooters of Wyalong and West Wyalong be crowned at this very unique local sporting competition co-ordinated by Pat O'Kane. Great prizes up for grabs and limited entries available on the day. For more information phone Council on 6972 2266.

2pm: Wyalong Museumm Local History Bus Tour. Bookings essential to the Museum on 6972 3303.

Noon-10pm: Miller's Metals West Wyalong Rodeo at the West Wyalong Horse Sports & Rodeo Ground, Tallimba Rd West Wyalong. Affiliated through the ABCRA. Junior events from 12 noon. Light horsemen to open main event at 5pm. Licenced bar and canteen available. No BYO. Sunday 24 March

7am-11am: West Wyalong Gold Triathlon at Holland Park Pool, West Wyalong. Registrations opens at 7am, junior run/swim/run at 8am, sprint race at 8.30am and enticer triathlon at 10am. Online registrations and more information is available at 

8.30am-12.30pm: Lucky 125 Gold Mine Tour. 125 lucky people will tour Evolution Minng's Cowal Gold Operations. Buses depart McCann Park at 8.30am and is followed by a mine tour, gold panning and morning tea before returning to McCann Park at 12.30pm. Visitors are required to wear enclosed shoes, long pants and a long sleeved shirt. Numbers are strictly limited. THIS TOUR IS BOOKED OUT

9am-4pm: Crooked Mile Show & Shine, McAlister Oval, West Wyalong. Come celebrate the 125 year anniversary of Wyalong/West Wyalong and participate in the annual Western Wheelers Crooked Mile Show & Shine.  Lots of new inclusions for the 2019 event  including relocation to McAlister Oval, dyno, expanded categories and awards & trophies, kids competition, car boot sale and lots more on offer for everyone!
