Australia Day 2021

This year’s Australia Day awards will be done a little differently.

Due to COVID-19 unfortunately we are unable to hold the Lions Club Australia Day breakfast as normal. Award nominees and their invited guests will instead attend a special Australia Day award dinner at the West Wyalong Services and Citizens Club on Monday night 25 January where the winners of all categories will be announced.

This event is supported by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council.

The full awards ceremony will be live streamed by Council to ensure all members of the community can follow proceedings and celebrate the winners and finalists.

The live stream is available at https://youtu.be/ik9LJ8BYY7k

Bland Shire Mayor Brian Monaghan announced the finalists for the 2021 Bland Shire Citizen of the Year award on Thursday 21 January which can be found HERE

Meanwhile with the assistance of the National Australia Day Council, Council is opening the West Wyalong and Ungarie swimming pools for free on Australia Day. The waterslide at Holland Park will also be available free of charge while Ungarie residents can slip and slide on the inflatable at no cost.

We will finish our Australia Day celebrations literally with a bang - thanks again to the National Australia Day Council.

Griff’s Fireworks will deliver a spectacular Australian themed fireworks display from McAlister Oval at 9pm for the enjoyment of all.
