Nominations are now open for the 2020 Bland Shire Australia Day awards.
Bland Shire Mayor Brian Monaghan is encouraging people to recognise a valued community member, group or sporting achiever by submitting a simple nomination form today.
Council has adopted changes to its Australia Day Award Committee structure this year with the community ambassadors and incumbent Citizen of the Year and Contribution to Sport winners invited to join the judging panel alongside the West Wyalong High School and Ungarie Central School captains, the Lions Youth of the Year and the Showgirl winners from West Wyalong, Weethalle and Ungarie.
They will join the Bland Shire Councillors and Council’s General Manager on the assessment panel.
Nominations are open until Monday 18 November across six categories - Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Group of the Year, Community Event of the Year, Achievement in Sport and Contribution to Sport with forms available online at www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au or at Council’s Shire Street offices.
Submitting a nomination is simpler than ever with a single page, double sided nomination form. To be eligible nominees must be an Australian Citizen who resides in the Bland Shire or a locally based community organisation which has a demonstrated record of achievement in the local community.
Individuals and groups are ineligible if they have already won an award in the same category, are an elected representative (eg Councillor) or a recipient of Australian and Imperial Honours. Individuals, clubs, associations and organisations cannot nominate themselves. A full list of previous winners is available on Council’s website at www.blandshire.nsw.gov.au
All eligible nominees will be recognised and the winners announced at the annual Lions Club breakfast and Bland Shire Australia Day awards at Barnado Park on Sunday 26 January.
More information about the 2020 Australia Day awards is available by phoning Council on 6972 2266.
