Summer Reading Club

Summer Reading Club 2019 - 20

Bland Shire Library’s annual Summer Reading Club program is on again! However, this year we are doing things a little different. This year, Summer Reading Club will be a 40-day challenge. This will move the emphasis from counting books to days spent reading, making participation more achievable for all involved.

The Summer Reading Club 40-day challenge is free for school students aged 5—16 years. No matter what your child’s age or level of reading, they can read as many or as few books as they like, as long as they read.

Their challenge is to read for a minimum of 40 days between the official dates of December 1, 2019 and January 31, 2020.

While it is recommended that your child read for at least 10 – 20 minutes per session, this is only a guideline and is not compulsory.

To help your child reach their goal, Bland Shire Library will reward them for every 10 consecutive days that they read, up to 40 days. All they have to do to receive their reward is present their reading log at the library and have it stamped by a staff member. All entries in their reading log must be validated — that is, signed by a parent or guardian. Rewards will include lucky dip prizes, vouchers from a variety of local businesses, books and more.

There will be some fun mini challenges along the way!  There will also be weekly prize draws and lots of other fun activities to fill in the school holidays.

Bland Shire Library will launch its 2019 - 20 Summer Reading Club program on Wednesday 27th November 2019 starting at 3.30pm. Registrations will be taken on the day, but if you can’t make it, participants can register anytime up until 3pm Friday 20 December 2019.
