Phase 2 Flood Plan Risk Management Committee

Following a severe flood in Ungarie in March 2012, Council has begun the process of preparing a comprehensive Floodplain Risk Management Plan for the Township, in accordance with the NSW Government’s Flood Study Development Manual.

Bland Shire Council is carrying out a Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan for Ungarie. This Study and Plan will be used to manage flood risk within the Ungarie floodplain.

The Floodplain Risk Management Study follows the completion of a Flood Study for Ungarie in 2017 – the first step in the floodplain management process.

Expressions of interest were called for from interested consultants to undertake the study.

Council has appointed BMT of Broadmeadow NSW to conduct the study.

Phase 2 of the project involves establishing a Floodplain Risk Management Committee and to undertake a Flood Study of Ungarie.

Modelling and mapping from the 2017 Flood Study will be used as the basis for investigating impacts of flooding, possible flood mitigation options, and management of flood risks for existing and future development.

This work, in conjunction with community input, will culminate in the development of a Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Ungarie.

The Committee membership will be based on the of the previous Committee which advised on the processing of the Flood Study.

The purpose of the Committee is to;

•             Provide a forum for discussion of issues (technical, social, environmental and cultural) relevant to the development and implementation of a Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Ungarie.

•             Provide advice and recommendations on matters relevant to the development and implementation of a Floodplain Risk Management Plan for Ungarie.
