Community Care

Bland Shire's Community Care Service provides support to older people, people with a disability and people who care for them, as they live at home.

Its mission is to empower, build on strengths and promote self-sufficiency of clients to assist to enhance independence, health and wellbeing by tailoring services to meet the individual’s needs and goals.

Bland Community Care Service provides services to areas within the Bland Shire.

Who is eligible for help at home?

If you are looking to receive services from the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, you will need to contact My Aged Care.

Services provided by Bland Shire's Community Care Centre

Domestic Assistance

Domestic assistance can support you with practical tasks such as general housework or shopping form a list. Services like these may help you the remain independent in your own home. Staff will provide assistance with the tasks you are unable to complete while promoting independence by allowing you to do the tasks you can.

Social Support & Activities

Social support services can help you to maintain an active social life by having someone visit you in your home, or by arranging visits and outings in the community. This may include attending medical appointments or shopping assistance if you are unable to attend alone.

Gentle Exercise Group

Gentle exercise program focusing on balance and falls prevention in a social environment. Our Exercise Groups are on Monday 10.30am to 11.30am. Thursday 11am to 12pm and 1.30pm to 2.30pm. These sessions are followed by morning or afternoon tea.

Bland Blokes

Bland Blokes is a group of men who come together to have a cuppa, chat and an opportunity to make new friends. Bland Blokes meet from 9.30am to 11.30am Tuesday mornings at the Community Care Centre. 

Goods & Equipment

Goods and equipment services can help you maintain you independence if you have a functional limitation (any health problem that prevents you from completing a range of tasks), or if you just find it difficult to carry out day-to-day living activities.

Home Maintenance

Home maintenance can provide assistance with mowing your lawns. The service is primarily for function and safety and not for aesthetic effect.

Respite Care

Respite care (also known as short-term care) is a form of support for carers. It gives Carers the opportunity to attend to everyday activities and have a break from their caring role. Respite care may be given informally by friends, family or neighbours, or by formal respite services. Respite services maybe available in your home or at the centre.

Centre Based Activity Day

Centre based activity day refer to the provision of structured group activities designed to assist people develop, maintain or support the capacity for independent living and social interaction and enables people to pursue interests and hobbies. The aim of the day is to have fun through stimulating the mind and body with activities and by mixing with other community members. Our Centre Based Activity Day is on Wednesdays from 10am to 3pm.

Please note Community Care services will continue as usual over the Christmas/New Year period, excluding public holidays.
