Bland Shire Council is proud to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contributions of local volunteers during National Volunteer Week 2025, which will be held from 20–26 May. This year’s theme, ‘Connecting Communities’, highlights the invaluable role that volunteers play in bringing people together, creating stronger, more inclusive communities, and enhancing the wellbeing of all.

To thank the many individuals across the Shire who give their time, skills and compassion to help others, Bland Shire Council is hosting a Volunteer Thank You Breakfast on Thursday 22 May at 8:00am, at Rise & Grind Café in West Wyalong. All volunteers from across the Shire are warmly invited to attend this free event.

Mayor Brian Monaghan said volunteers are a vital part of the fabric of Bland Shire, and National Volunteer Week is the perfect time to acknowledge their selfless work.

“Volunteers are the heart and soul of our communities,” Cr Monaghan said. “They’re the people who show up, week after week, asking for nothing in return — simply because they care.”

“From sporting clubs and school committees to community groups, aged care support, emergency services and local events — volunteers are everywhere. They are the quiet achievers who often work behind the scenes, but their efforts have a lasting impact on the lives of so many.”

Cr Monaghan encouraged anyone who volunteers in any capacity to attend the breakfast, enjoy a meal and connect with fellow community members.

“We want this event to be a genuine celebration of everything volunteers do for our Shire,” he said. “It’s a small gesture of thanks, but one that comes from a grateful community.”

“National Volunteer Week is also a great time to reflect on the value of giving back and to encourage others to consider volunteering. Even a few hours of your time can make a big difference.”

RSVPs for the Volunteer Thank You Breakfast are essential and must be received by 12noon Tuesday 20 May. Please phone (02) 6972 2266 to reserve your place.

Bland Shire Council thanks all volunteers — past, present and future — for helping build a stronger, more connected Shire.
